Juventus were controversially awarded a late penalty by VAR as they rescued a draw against Milan in Thursday’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s speculative bicycle kick hit the unsuspecting Davide Calabria on the arm, with the defender only a yard away from Ronaldo and looking in the opposite direction, in the 88th minute.

After a consultation with the video assistant referee, the on-pitch official awarded the penalty to Juventus – much to Milan’s chagrin.
Unsurprisingly, the spot kick was converted by Ronaldo three minutes later, with the goal rescuing Juve a draw at the San Soro.
To rub further salt in the wound, Calabria was booked for giving away the penalty!
Milan appeared to be heading for a hard-fought 1-0 win as Ante Rebic gave his side a 61st-minute lead and they were in front until the final stages
Stefano Pioli’s side had to play the final 19 minutes of the game with 10 men as Theo Hernandez received a second yellow card for a late challenge on Paulo Dybala.

Ronaldo’s goal from the penalty spot means he’s now netted in 11 consecutive games, and has scored 24 times in 29 appearances for Juve this season.
Milan head coach Pioli was incensed by the decision to award a penalty, citing a similar incident which happened in a Cagliari vs Brescia game earlier this season when Alberto Cerri was harshly penalised for a handball in the box.
He said: “I got angry first and foremost because there was a foul on Zlatan Ibrahimovic earlier in the move.
“Plus I remember the referees showed footage of that Cagliari-Brescia penalty at the start of the season and said it was an error to award it because the player couldn’t see the ball.
“Here the situation is the same as Calabria couldn’t see it. Alberto Cerri, in that situation, jumped and could not just cut his arms off, you have to use your arms when jumping.”
